To use the Novatel U730 (or other similar Novatel PCCard HSDPA/GPRS modem), you need the driver for the card you are using and the Mobilink software from Novatel.
The drivers for the particular card you are using are available from the Novatel web site www.nvtl.com
All the PCCard drivers (even the now obsolete U730) are at: www.nvtl.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=137&Itemid=82
Once you have the drivers, install them before putting the card in the machine.
Then install the Mobilink software. If you lost the CD that came with the card, the only place I found the Mobilink software is on an Australian Wireless provider’s web site: ask3.three.com.au
This version is supposed to work with all versions of Windows, from 2000 to Windows 7, including Vista. I only tried with XP Pro. YMMV.
After installing the Mobilink software, run it.
You need to define a new profile in the Profile manager. The software has a default profile for the Australian Wireless provider that you cannot remove or change. Name the new profile whatever you want (I named mine "ATT Novatel"). Then it will ask you for the APN, user name and password. The following is what I used for my AT&T Blackberry and it works fine with the Merlin card.
APN: ISP.CINGULAR username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM password: CINGULAR1Someone indicated username and password may not be necessary. I did not try without.
Note: everything is CAPS sensitive!
Under Configuration, just leave everything at default.
Once you enter the data, click OK to go back to Mobilink's main menu.
There is a drop down box available at the top, select the configuration that you just created. Do not use the default!
Now, you should be able to click "Connect" and in a few seconds you will be on line!
